All Clad is one of the most desirable cookware manufacturers in the market place today. It is highly desired for its phenomenal craftsmanship and quality products. We are going to take a look at one of its most popular cookware sets – the Professional Master Chef 2 also know as the All Clad MC2.
If you aren’t familiar with All Clad we should start by saying it is an American company and all its products are manufactured right here in the U.S.A. Obviously you are going to pay more for this 10 piece set than a similar one that is mass produced on the cheap. These are premium pans and that is reflected in their price.
So what do you get for the extra money over an equivalent T-fal set for example? Well you get a lifetime warranty for a start but you also get some of the best pans money can buy. These would seriously not be out of place in a Michelin star restaurant.
Pro’s
The price: As we mentioned these aren’t the cheapest cookware sets on the market but if you are looking for an affordable All Clad set then the MC2 is probably the one to go for. It retails a lot cheaper than some of their other sets like the All-Clad 401877R, which is a very similar 10 piece set.
Durable: These pans are heavy solid items and you will immediately notice their quality when you pick them up. The full set weighs in at 29lbs which is considerably heavier than some other cookware sets with the same number of items. They are made with premium materials. A 3-ply bonded stainless steel interior and a brushed aluminum exterior that looks fantastic.
Even Heating: The aluminum provides quick and even heating you will struggle to get with other materials.
Oven Safe: These pans are oven safe to a brilliant 600 degrees F. Most cookware sets top out at 500 degrees.
Lifetime Guarantee.
Con’s
Not induction ready. Unfortunately this set is not ready to be used on induction cooktops so you will need a converter disc if you are planning on using these with induction technology.
Scratches Easily: Some Amazon reviewers have reported that there set scratched very easily after a few uses. We have not seen this but have been very careful with our set and have avoided putting it in the dishwasher for this very reason.
Price: There are many comparable cookware sets for much lower prices. For example you can get this superb Duxtop Cookware Set for much less and it is a a 17 piece set.
Dishwasher Safe: Well yes and no. The pans will certainly survive the dishwasher but they may start to look worse for wear after a few cycles. You may want to hand wash these to keep them in pristine condition.
Conclusion
There are very few manufacturers in the U.S making pans of this quality. If being American made is important to you then look no further and go out and buy this set or one of the larger sets if it is within your budget. These are incredibly high quality pans and you will not be disappointed in your purchase.
If however you are looking for a larger set at a lower price point then we would perhaps look at the Duxtop SSIB-17 Professional 17 piece
